Label TextDuring the later 1930s many of Germany's most progressive artists were forced to flee Hitler's Third Reich. The Weiningers took refuge in the Netherlands in 1938. From 1942 to 1951 they lived and worked in Amsterdam. While Weininger continued to work in a Surrealist manner, he began to move towards an abstraction based on natural forms. Untitled of 1950 recalls the biomorphism of Joan Miro. The black and red shapes are fluid and curvilinear, derived from organic rather than geometric forms, and are situated in a dream-like spatial setting.
