Label TextIn 1958 the Weiningers were able to move to the United States, settling in New York City. There, Weininger began to revisit his Bauhaus work, either enlarging or re-working earlier compositions or creating new works using similar principles. This period is dominated by sketches, including extensive notes, preparatory drawings, designs, and outlines for potential projects. For Weininger the artistic process was one of constant revision. He often returned to a design many years later to attempt a new resolution of an old problem.

Works from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s are firmly rooted in Bauhaus principles of construction and color contrast. The primary focus is geometric clarity and the relationships among pictorial elements. Color Studies recalls Bauhaus experiments in color theory. Seven squares are further divided into four triangles. Each square is a study in chromatic and tonal variation-the hue of each triangle becomes progressively more saturated, while the value is adjusted with the addition of white and black. The primary concern in these later works is the achievement of a balanced relationship between form, color, space, and surface. Weininger's life-long dedication to rational-constructive abstraction shows how deeply he absorbed the philosophies of the Bauhaus and De Stijl during his formative years.
