Label TextMagazine illustrations such as these documented the war for the public at home, but readers were spared the more horrific details. Here Homer depicts the treatment of wounded soldiers, but there is no excessive show of pain or blood. The wounds are for the most part blocked by the figures of the attending doctor and his aides.
