Label TextThis is one of the earliest of Homer's depictions of beach resorts; many more were to follow. The text accompanying the illustration describes "the scene by the sea-side--the dolce far niente--the hunt for crustacea--the hour spent in sketching the distant schooner--the delightful tetes-a-tetes--are they not all written in our memories?" This pastiche is well-fitted to the miscellaneous incidents collected in Homer's picture.
