Label TextDehn spent a large part of his career in Europe. He learned the latest lithographic techniques at the Paris workshop of Edmond Desjobert, from which this print comes. Characteristic of Desjobert's work, it is printed on fine, thin Japanese paper applied to a sturdier support, a process called chine colle. The print is based upon studies Dehn made while traveling in the Austrian Alps. The small edition size of this print (twenty-five) reflects the limited resources and small clientele Dehn had while in Europe. He would return to America a more developed artist with a cutting-edge knowledge of lithography, which he passed on to his compatriots in the United States.
