Label TextThis large, polished calcite jar is reminiscent of early Egyptian lug-handle jars of marl clay from ca. 2700 BCE. Large calcite lug-handle jars were filled with oil and other offerings and were donated to temples in the Late and Ptolemaic periods. Often, these jars carried Greek or multilanguage inscriptions, naming the king or gods honored with an offering.Exhibition HistoryLife and the Afterlife: Ancient Egyptian Art from the Senusret Collection, Michael C.
