Label TextFlat-bodied, plank-shaped ceramic figures like this were produced in Boeotia in the 6th century BCE and have primarily been found in graves. This example is typical of those made in the middle of the century, with a bird-like face, and painted eyes and hair, which falls ontot he shoulders to either side of the face. The figure wears a chest ornament indicasted by two horizonal bands decorated with dots over a long garment with a border of vertical stripes. The headdress (polos) with volute indicates that the figure is likely a goddess, perhaps Demeter or Persephone.ProvenanceEx coll. William S. Arnett (1939-2020), Atlanta, Georgia.
