Label TextOsiris as a mummy stands front with arms crossed, wearing an atef-crown with ram's horns, holding a flail in each hand.

The device-type is popular, reflecting the continued use of Pharaonic imagery in the Roman period. Its combination with lapis is also common: the stone was associated with the protection of the night sky but was also symbolic of rebirth, making it an appropriate choice for depicting the resurrected Osiris.
ProvenanceEx coll. Michael Shubin (1950-2008), Montebello, California, purchased from Classical Numismatic Group, Auction 57, March 28, 2001, lot 1890.
