Label TextThis small pavilion stood at one of the island's landing places and was nicknamed the "Pharaoh's Bed." On the riverbank below is a dahabieh, the sailboat with a large cabin favored by most tourists before the advent of steamboats on the Nile. Negotiating for a dahabieh and then making sure it was free of vermin (this was done by sinking the boat completely for a few days) was one of the many challenges which faced the early traveler.
