Label TextMasks made out of beads, sometimes smaller than the actual face, could be attached to the mummy. This type of mummy trapping was thought to derive from the costumes worn by goddesses, although they have been found on mummies of both sexes. Beadwork garments in burials are known from as early as the Old Kingdom.
