Label TextThis is a working drawing for LeWitt's Concrete Block series. LeWitt first came to prominence in the 1960s as a Conceptualist artist. In Conceptualism art exists in the idea rather than in a physical object. These pencil drawings show Lewitt experimenting with different patterns or formulae which can be used to generate various combinations of concrete blocks. These formulae can then be translated into actual structures like Tower One (2002) which stands across from the museum on the Emory Quadrangle outside White Hall.
