Label TextIn this print Wegman has taken a kitschy piece of popular culture, the tourist postcard, as his point of departure in creating fantastic idyllic landscapes. The vintage postcard was purchased from a Tampa bookseller and glued on paper. Wegman then extrapolated the connecting landscape in watercolor. The painted elements and the collaged postcard were then faithfully reproduced via photolithography. Wegman displays his characteristic wit in these imaginary works. He calls attention to the fabricated nature of the landscape represented in Shoreliner by placing the two identical postcards as mirror images of each other, connecting them with a painted causeway whose curves are repeated in abstract, atmospheric flourishes.
