Label TextIn this print Wegman has taken a kitschy piece of popular culture, the tourist postcard, as his point of departure in creating fantastic idyllic landscapes. The vintage postcard was purchased from a Tampa bookseller and glued on paper. Wegman then extrapolated the connecting landscape in watercolor. The painted elements and the collaged postcard were then faithfully reproduced via photolithography. Wegman displays his characteristic wit in this imaginary work. In Souvenir he playfully encloses the landscape in a paperweight globe whose base mimics the stone wall in the postcards.
