Label TextThe ferocity (ugram) and power of this goddess are indicated by her fangs, her bulging eyes, the skull-bowl (kapala) in her left hand, and the dagger she wields in her right. She shares this iconography with a range of fierce goddesses, including fanged village goddesses (gramadevatas) such as Mariamma, Ankalamma, Gangamma, and others. She also shares these ugra characteristics, as well as a similar hairstyle, with the tantric goddess Ekajata Tara (literally, Tara with a single lock of matted hair).
