Label TextThis slightly over-life sized statue of a man wearing a toga would originally have had an individualized portrait head that was carved of one piece with the body. He stands with his weight on his left leg and his right bent at the knee and slightly extended. He holds a rotulus (scroll) in his extended left hand and reaches across his chest to grip the folds of his toga with his right; he also wears a signet ring on the third finger of his left hand. A rectangular scroll box rests against his left leg and provides a support for the statue. The back of the statue is only summarily carved, indicating that it was displayed in a niche.
