Label TextThe image of a skeleton reclining at a banquet was popular during the first centuries BCE and CE in a variety of media, from silver vessels to mosaics. It likely served as an Epicurean memento mori, urging the viewer to enjoy life while it lasted. This skeleton has removed its wreath and leans against an upturned amphora as though satiated at the end of the party.
