Label TextA three-quarter length bust of a young woman facing left, holding a laurel branch in her outstretched left hand and pulling at the neck of her chiton with her right. The gesture may relate to the practice of spitting onto one's chest to ward off the Evil Eye (Strato, Greek Anthology 12.229) and suggests a votive context for the scene. The woman's long hair is bound by a fillet and she wears a bracelet on each wrist.Terms
