Label TextObjects made from organic materials, like wood, rarely survive the ravages of rot, insects, and decay. In some of the Middle Bronze Age tombs, the natural processes of decay were mysteriously halted. Natural gases may have entered the tombs through faults in the stone caused by earth tremors, or the methane and carbon dioxide produced by the initial decomposition may have checked the decay in the airtight interior of some of the tombs.
