Label TextThis large wooden model represents the tomb owner swathed in a white linen cloak. Such figures are found on boat models representing the voyage to Abydos. The enveloping shroud may associate the figure with the god Osiris and suggest that he has already passed on. There is tremendous variation in the model figures produced by local craftsmen throughout the Nile Valley, and the quality and size of this model suggest that it comes from Asyut and probably dates to the very beginning of the 12th Dynasty.Exhibition HistoryFrom Pharaohs to Emperors: New Egyptian and Classical Antiquities at Emory, Michael C.
