Label TextThese two prints reproduce architectural plans taken from Denis Diderot's Encyclopedia, a monument of learning from the "Age of Enlightment" of the eighteenth century. Kuitca has overlaid the clear diagrams with an extravagance of inky smears and blots. Under the artist's hand the rational becomes the emotional, evoking the passions and life of the senses which might actually have taken place in the salon of this Baroque palace. Throughout his career Kuitka has been concerned with depicting physical spaces (beds, apartment plans, theater seating, city maps) that are uninhabited yet incontrovertibly marked by human feelings and the passage of time.Exhibition HistoryPrinted Matter: Contemporary Works from GraphicStudio, Michael C.
