Life and the Afterlife: The Senusret Collection

Life and the Afterlife: Ancient Egyptian Art from the Senusret Collection explores what objects can tell us about daily life, sacred life, and the afterlife. The Senusret Collection was gifted to the Michael C. Carlos Museum by the Georges Ricard Foundation in 2018. Ricard named the collection after the refined items discovered in the village of Hetep-Senusret, modern Lahun in the Egyptian Faiyum, which served the pyramid complex of King Senusret II.
Since its arrival at Emory, the Senusret Collection has provided valuable opportunities for student and faculty research, technical and scholarly collaboration, art historical analysis, object conservation, and provenance tracing. Examples are highlighted in videos and interactive content throughout the exhibition.
